Company History
Quick Facts
- One of the oldest online gaming software providers, Cryptologic powered the first ever real-money online casino, Intercasino, launched in 1996.
- The company was founded in 1995 by two Canadian brothers in the basement of their parents’ house.
- By 1998 the company was big enough to be listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
- Parent Wagerlogic was acquired in 2012 by Amaya Gaming, which now owns PokerStars.
- Today, Cryptologic powers over 300 games, including popular slots themes with characters from the DC universe, such as Batman and Superman.
CryptoLogic was formed as a partnership between brothers Andrew Rivkin and Mark Rivkin in 1995, when they were still located in Toronto, Canada. In 1996, the brothers licensed their software to an online casino for the first time by working with InterCasino. Licensing agreements were handled through a company they named WagerLogic, which was a wholly owned subsidiary of CrytpoLogic.
By 1998, CryptoLogic was large enough to be listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, which was followed up in later years by listings on NASDAQ (2000) and the London Stock Exchange (2003). Over time, the company would become known for their licensing agreements with many major brands around the world, including William Hill, Littlewoods Gaming, Playboy and the World Poker Tour.
In 2012, Amaya Gaming Group completed an unconditional takeover of CryptoLogic by purchasing over 80% of the stock in the company. As a part of that process, CryptoLogic was also delisted from the stock exchanges it was traded on.
